A couple of weeks ago, Black Butter Records released Sailor & I’s ‘Tough Love’. Swedish musician Alexander Sjodin collaborated with a host of DJs and instrumentalists (James Zabiela, PBR Streetgang, Kidnap Kid, Laurent Garnier, Aeroplane and The Magician, to name but a few) to produce the debut track and its remix package.
Echoey and almost ethereal, Tough Love is wholly mesmerising and utterly touching.
Over the string-led backing, Sjodin’s soft vocals truthfully depict the trials of a failing relationship. Delicate, slow and repetitious, yet undercut with steady drums and strong harmonies, the track builds towards a brave crescendo and an unexpected finish.
