Alt-J-Breezeblocks-Arcade-Remix

The main appeal of Alt-J‘s ‘Breezeblocks’ is, unquestionably, its references to Germolene and Where The Wild Things Are. Global appeal.

Ok. Maybe not. Rather, the choral round at the tail end of the track demonstrates the strong layered vocal the folk-step band from Cambridge produce. The myriad of vocal and instrumental intricacies reaching a nostalgic climax are bloody lovely.

Arcade remix of ‘Breezeblocks’ actually appeared on Soundcloud via Four Two Agency five months ago, but as the official video topped a million views on Youtube earlier this month, the Argentinian producer’s remix has spread like wildfire. Arcade has built on the folk-step thing which Alt-J initiated, with a delicate but distinct beat replacing the drums. The choral element from the end hasn’t made the cut. Instead of the big crescendo finish, the layers are stripped back, until only the simple backing vocals and Arcades beat remain.
