Babyshambles - Picture Me In A Hospital

Babyshambles revealed new track ‘Picture Me In A Hospital’ from forthcoming album Sequel To The Prequel this week and despite Doherty’s claims, ‘I don’t want this to be half arsed…’ it all feels a little lack lustre. Babyshambles have always done mellow well and this is definitely achieved on this track however it feels like the edges have been shaved off, with violin that could sit quite comfortably in a Noah and The Whale track and jangly guitar to put the indie kids at ease, no new ground is broken. This is by no means a bad track, like a lazy summer afternoon it’s warm and satisfying. Lyrically it sounds like an epiphany; Doherty sings, ‘There’s still a chance for me…’ and, ‘I’m invincible.’ For a second I believe it, however I can’t shake this feeling that we’re being lulled in to a false sense of security, it feels like there’s no fire, it’s squeaky clean but cold to the touch.
