There’s a common perception amongst the DYC residents that I am not a fan of female singer-songwriters. Bolloooocks. I love Florence and the Machine. She’s hot. And occasionally Laura Marling gets my cardie vibrating. In all fairness though, I could be accused of reserving all but cynicism when I’m introduced to a new girl. However, Lucy Rose is slowly but surely changing my tune. Listeners of the recent Bombay Bicycle Club record may well be aware of her name in the credits after she lent her classic, Joni Mitchell-esque tones to eight of the tracks on A Different Kind of Fix, and while Miss Rose isn’t exactly reinventing the wheel, there’s no need to when ‘Middle of the Bed’ and ‘Scar’ produce the kind of candid, autumnal folk-pop that Marling made her name with. Christ knows I’ve looked for something not to like, but I just can’t see it. She’s lovely.
