And the Giraffe

Oh, the genius of a name that begs a question. What…And the Giraffe, we wonder? Obviously, there’s something well over our heads about it, something metaphorical and symbolic. Or, you know, it’s just the name of the band, and giraffes are cool. What’s a hell of a lot more important about this Florida pair (Nick Roberts and Josh Morris) is the fact that their EP, Something For Someone is FREE. Well, that all depends on your musical morals. Pay what you wish. But you’d be hard pressed to spend your money (or not, as the case will probably be) on a better collection of dreamy, folk-led ballads.

Opener ‘Underground Love’ is undoubtedly the highlight, coupling a slick, trickling guitar line with a smokey voice well ahead of its age, while ‘Masquerade’ fronts some actually impressively neat lyricism and a building, beguiling atmosphere. It’s all lovely stuff, never overly solemn and never too reverent towards their obvious inspirations. It’s got its own little personality, has Something For Someone, and that’s far too rare in music these days. We’re not going to force you to download the EP. We’re not like that. But you can sod right off if you don’t.
