Brother Bones

Brother & Bones a relatively small time band from Cornwall have already set themselves apart from all other folk artists, who are currently playing the circuit. Their first EP – Skin was released in the back end of 2011, it was recorded ‘in an old converted farmhouse… surrounded by barren Cornish countryside’ it is a completely stripped back EP and the powerful tracks on it further reflect this. ‘Back To Shore’ the first track on the EP is truly captivating, Rich Thomas’s vocals work beautifully alongside the full base and acoustic guitar line. What is even more brilliant about Brother & Bones is the front man is not the only gem, the entire band seem to have mastered their instruments and are capable of creating one spine tingling record.

The second track ‘Good For You’ is still as commanding as the first, Rich Thomas’ vocals are slowed, the lyrics are sentimental and poetic “now love is just a blistered kiss, a broken heart, a fading scar” any listener will find it hard not to fall in love with the band, right there and then. It seems that this band are incapable of writing a band song, ‘Skin And Bone’ is yet another beauty, combing electric guitars riffs with earthy percussion, all in harmony with Thomas’s raw vocals. A personal favourite is a cover of ‘Dirt In The Ground’ first played by Tom Waits, this track is placed intentionally last, it packs a weighty punch and draws to a close an impressive EP.

Brother & Bones played BBC Introducing in 2011 and have started to collect an already crazed fan base. This folk rock band has already toured alongside Ben Howard and Dry The River holding their own every step of the way. It seems that finally Brother & Bones are beginning to get the recollection they deserve being nominated for Breakthrough Act Award at the Live Music Awards 2012. Looking to this autumn the band have embarked on their All We Know EP tour which started in their own backyard at Marazion in Cornwall on the 14th September, and finishes on the 10th November in Bath. If you are a lover of stripped back, unique folk music you will adore Brother & Bones, I promise.
