Reading based rapper Sami Switch has released his second mixtape, titled Momento Mori, which you can download for free from Blak Magik.
Opener ‘Momento Mori’ samples Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ and sees Sami spitting the introspective and thoughtful lyrics for which he has become known, and has garnered him attention from the likes of SB.TV. The album features a host of other rappers who have risen alongside Sami, none more so than Tanch and Wezzy, who both feature on standout track ‘Silver Line.’
‘Step Back’ is one track in which Sami leave behind the rap and show off his voice that is reminiscent to the voice of crooner Frank Ocean.
As a whole, the mixtape displays a wide range of musical styles. ‘Ocean’ ends with Sami rapping over a jazz beat, whilst the following track ‘Love Gun’ has elements of dubstep in the backing track.
Through making use of his intelligent lyricism and solid flow, Momento Mori showcases Sami at his best, and shows exactly why he is one of the rising stars of the UK hip hop scene.
