Kendal-Calling

I came to rekindle my love for a landscape and a people I consider to be my home. Long bored of the South; it’s all about, and has always been about being up NORF!

PARTY HARD became the motto of the weekend (or so inked by a hysterical 16 year old headbanger at the front of the stage.) We did, in our own special way. Surrounded by the delirium of an avid and wonderfully insane crowd at Craig Charles, most of whom appeared to be friends of his children, it does call to question why a Corrie Star and armed with a bag of ‘Funk and Soul’ can cure any Cumbrian crowd better than the majority of the headliners at Kendal and blitz the last 1am-3am spot of the entire weekend. It doesn’t make sense, none of the three days made sense. But they were absolutely wonderful in all their nonsensical backward Cumbrian delight.

Highlights definitely came in the shape of chatting with ‘We Are Scientists’ the lovely ‘Lucy Rose’ and ‘Feeder’ and seeing King Charles perform an exclusive session for us by a lake, during the last glimmers of sunlight under a rainbow. Vintage Trouble were unbelievably spectacular and Coda (a live dubstep) troupe absolutely blew our socks off.

I left the mountains with a deeper appreciation for all things brass, Funk n’ Soul and a love for ‘Totes Amazeballs’ cereal. Put the last weekend of July 2013 in your diary and book yourself a date with Kendal.
